Blur
Outstanding retrospective collection from britpop icons
Paul Nolan, 30 Aug 2012

The final rarities disc – covering the albums Blur, 13, The Best Of and Think Tank – feature numerous experimental jams as the band took an abrupt, leftfield art-rock turn, with stand-out moments including ‘1’ and ‘3’, exploratory efforts made under the guidance of alt. rock guru Bill Laswell, not to mention the imaginatively titled piano ballad ‘Sir Elton’s John Cock’.
Wonderful recent efforts such as ‘Fool’s Day’ and the JG Ballard-indebted ‘Under The Westway’ show that Blur still have plenty in the tank. Hopefully, we can look forward to more great music from Messrs Albarn, Coxon, James and Rowntree.
