Amazing Apples are an upbeat five-piece indie/folk band from Galway. Brought together coincidentally by mutual friends, their formative years were spent playing covers of the likes of MGMT and Guns N' Roses, with the proviso that they'd add their own twist to each song.

They soon moved on to writing their own material and experimenting with different sounds. Along the way, they were in the reckoning for Hot Press competition, The Big Break. Their eclectic style impressed the judges.

"We are always interested in mixing genres, which is reflected on our album," explains Eanna Fahy. The singer is referring to their 2015 debut, A Little Sense, which rose to Number 3 in the Irish Independent Charts. It was recorded with renowned Irish producer Joe Chester, who has worked with The Coronas and Ryan Sheridan, among many more.

Fahy confides that the big roots and folk sound he wanted initially differed to what Joe thought they should go for. Joe took us down a route that was more indie it was fairly experimental for us," Eanna acknowledges. "It helped us reach a wider audience. He changed our perspective on things: we are writing differently now and we're thinking differently. He just encouraged us to find our groove."

In the past few weeks, Amazing Apples have begun writing new music. They have ambitions to capture their new 'bigger sound', accompanied by a small orchestra, on a live album. Fahy remarks that, onstage, the quartet are a different beast. "When we play live, it's a bit more uptempo," he smiles. "There's more strength behind it".
