The Las Vegas-based band will soundtrack build-up to Nate Diaz battle at UFC 202
Las Vegas-based band the Black Donnellys have scored a major knockout success, agreeing to license their tribute to Conor McGregor to the Ultimate Fighting Championship for UFC 202.
The two Daves – Rooney and Browne – wrote 'Notorious' as a tribute to the titular mixed martial artist, who seeks revenge against Nate Diaz in eight days time, following his 2nd Round loss a few months ago.
“Conor comes from a tradition of Irish warriors that stretches back thousands of years, and we wanted to try to capture that Celtic fighting spirit in our song,” says Dave Browne. “As Conor says – ‘when one of us go to war, we all go to war,’ and we’re delighted that our song we be playing in the lead-up to this battle.”
“The UFC heard our song and thought that it would be perfect to promote the fight,” explained Rooney, who wrote the lyrics to the song, which was recorded in Las Vegas.
“Both of us are huge fight fans, and of course huge fans of Conor, and we were honored and delighted when they asked for permission to use it,” he added.
The song will soundtrack promotional videos in the run-up to the fight – and could well be sung for days after if the Dubliner has his arm raised on the night!
