As soon as Neil Tennant struts out on the Main Stage in shades and the most gigantic of shoulder pads (highly impractical, in all honesty), we're plunged headfirst into the exaggerated pure pop carnival that is a Pet Shop Boys' show.
Bringing the Main Stage to a close, the electro-pop pioneers are in no mood to bring down the energy levels following a stomping Foals set.
By the time the sardonic-yet-triumphal 'Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money)' arrives, the majority of the crowd are in dancefloor raptures.
'Suburbia' is a heavenly highlight and the deathless, stately 'West End Girls' elicits roars, but it is the one-two whammy of 'Rent' and 'It's A Sin' that pushes things over the top.
As ever with PSB, there is a large dose of the theatrical, with dancers wearing animal masks (and little else) and a cavalcade of lights.
It is, naturally, all about the music, which is a pure endorphin rush. We're only disappointed the pair couldn't stay past midnight.
