Wicklow natives Glyder put on an amazing show when they headlined the Kanpur Rock festival in India over the Bank holiday weekend.
Wicklow band Glyder rocked the city of Kanpur in India over the October bank holiday weekend with a spectacular show on Saturday night as headliners of the massive Kanpur Rock festival. The bill for the festival featured several domestic acts, as well as a local rock outfit who won a national contest for the privilege of opening for Glyder.
Rumour has it that Glyder’s drummer Davy Ryan texted his Ma from backstage to say “Holy Cow! We’re flippin’ Super Stars over here!” Rockers from all over India had arrived in their thousands to shake their turbans and play air guitar to their new favourite International rock band. The Wicklow band’s profile on the Indian rock scene had been given a major boost when Glyder’s latest EP Weather The Storm was championed by a top Rock DJ in India. College radio then picked up on it and Glyder quickly became hot property as promoters pushed to have the Irish rockers flown in to headline the festival.

Glyder have two critically acclaimed albums on release and have had a busy year touring and profile-building rapidly in Sweden, Spain, Japan and now India. Reviewing their album Playground For Life in Hot Press, Jackie Hayden described it as “A real tasty item, brimful of hooky melodies and a fine arrangement... the playing is full of energy and stays focused and on target".
