The Motorhead man refuses to let bad health scupper Dublin gig.
The Hot Press ‘Trooper of the Weekend’ Award goes to Lemmy who refused to let a spot of laryngitis get in the way of Mot?rhead playing a blinder last night in the Dublin Olympia.
It didn’t look good when a mere four songs into the set, a visibly upset Mr. Kilmister exited the stage with a croaked, “I’m sorry, I can’t even fucking talk!”
With the house lights going on it looked like curtains for the night, but five minutes later Lemmy returned, said “let’s try one more” and launched into a somewhat subdued ‘Over The Top’.
After letting guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee take the strain with their respective solos, a cover of Bob Seger/Thin Lizzy’s ‘Rosalie’ miraculously brought Lemmy’s voice back to life, and enabled the band to belt out the likes of ‘Going To Brazil’, ‘Bomber’, ‘Overkill’ and an acoustic ‘Whorehouse Blues’ with appropriate gusto.
Meanwhile, Anvil will be made to look like veritable pussies next year when Lemmy: The Movie finally hits the big screen. Along with gushing testimonials from the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Dave Grohl, Slash, Dee Snider and Hawkwind’s former nude cosmic hippy dancer Stacia, it also contains the best joke about 6-year-old boys, STDs, gardeners and squashed frogs that we’ve ever heard. Also upcoming are a Motörhead: In The Studio book and a new album – their 21st – which is due in the autum.
