First we had Blur vs. Oasis and now it’s Oasis vs. U2 as the two go head to head on November 20 with their respective Stop The Clock and U218 Singles Best Of… albums.
“U2 are the best band of the past 30 years,” Noel Gallagher tells Hot Press, “but we’re the best of the past 15. I think Bono himself would admit that.”
Mmm, we’re not so sure. As for who’ll be outselling who, Noel continues that, “U2 will beat us 1-0 in Ireland, but we’ll stick two past ‘em in the return leg in England to win 2-1 on aggregate.”
To keep you ticking over until our full Noel interview appears at the start of November, here are some stories he either confirmed or denied:
Did he lose to the Arctic Monkeys in a tequila drinking competition? – YES
Is he starting a chain of Supernova Heights hotels? – NO
Did he get up to all sorts of post-World Cup Final hi-jinx with Alan Hansen, Gary Linneker, Ray Stubbs and Mark Lawrenson in Germany? – YES
Is Liam a moron? – YES
As for U218, it’ll comprise of 16 previously released hits plus two new tracks, one of them the Green Day-assisted cover of The Skids’ ‘The Saints Are Coming’, which they recorded last month in Abbey Road with Rick Rubin.
There will also be a bonus CD featuring 10 songs from 2005’s Vertigo tour stop-off in Milan, and a DVD collection of all the promo videos.
