If you're headed to a festival this summer, expect to see The Clockworks!
Friends from their schooldays, The Clockworks are fronted by London-born James McGregor, guitarist Seán Connelly and drummer Damian Greaney.
Their indie vocal and drum-driven sound is influenced by artists such as The Smiths, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and The Strokes. “I would like to think people would describe it as songs you can move to, or songs you can sit and chill to,” explains singer James McGregor.
Their ‘foot in the door’ moment came in 2014, when they were invited to support Keywest. “I think it was one of the first times we had ever played together,” says McGregor. “We had no bassist or drummer at the time, and we had only two songs.” After surviving this baptism by fire, the group went through a period of teething problems, with their sound and lyrics being tweaked and refined. They continued to hone their talent with support slots for The Magic Numbers, Otherkin and Fangclub.
Their debut single ‘Girls Like You’, was played for the first time at an after-party with The Magic Numbers. Recorded in Dublin, the track compares the morning following a one-night stand from both the male and female perspective. The band’s next step is working towards an EP. “We have a couple of more singles we are going to try to put out and there’s four songs I can think of that I’d like to be on an EP.”
With several festival appearances expected to be confirmed shortly, you’ll be hearing a lot more about The Clockworks this summer.
