Anticipation is rising here at HP headquarters because aside from tomorrow being Friday, it also marks the release of Disney's live-adaptation of The Jungle Book.
And you know what that means? It's time to relive the childhood classic and forget about your worries and your strife!
It always seems sacrilegious to remake a childhood classic but in the past few years Disney have found a knack with it. Adaptations of Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella have breathed new life into the originals with relative success. Now they're taking on Rudyard Kipling's cherised tale The Jungle Book. The original Disney animation was in 1967 and if the critics are to be believed, Jon Favreau's reimagination of The Jungle Book is the best Disney adaptation yet. There is a healthy buzz circulating it, rave reviews and a 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with our resident film critic Roe McDermott singing it's high praises in the latest Hot Press.
For anyone who has been living under a rock since 1967, The Jungle Book is the story of young Mogwli. Mogwli is an orphan raised in the wilderness of the Indian Forest by a pack of wolves. He makes plenty of feral friends in his unorthodox home however things start to change when the evil tiger Shere Khan takes over. Mogwli must learn to adapt and rely on the help of his fellow jungle inhabitants to survive. Aside from the drama that unfolds, the film is full of classics such as I Wanna Be Like You and The Bare Necessities.
Directed by Iron Man's Jon Favreau, the trailers for The Jungle Book are exhilarating enough to entice you to see the full movie. It's an explosion of vibrant jungle life onscreen to immerse yourself in and a testament to newcomer Neel Sethi (Mogwli) who is the only human figure for the duration of the film. The narrating cast however is a star-studded extravaganza. Names like Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong'o and Christopher Walken top the bill.
