Johnny Marr quashes Smiths reunion rumours

Don't get too excited...

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 26 Apr 2012

“The Smiths to reform” reports currently doing the rounds are, as we suspected, a load of baloney.

Having tweeted a few hours ago: “Hey Everybody!! Amazing news! My amp is fixed!”, Johnny Marr has posted an official statement on his website, which reads: “The rumour of the Smiths reunion is untrue. It's not happening.”

That should stop tongues from wagging for, oh, at least another few months.

UPDATE:

Mike Joyce, former Smiths sticksman has issued the following statement:

“After today’s reports of The Smiths reforming I can confirm that they are NOT.

“However, I can confirm that after two tremendous years working at East Village Radio in New York, I have been appointed by Beatwolf Radio to become content manger and possibly content director of the station.

“I will present The Official Record Store Chart and run down albums sales from 100 independent record stores across the country, including Rough Trade, Eastern Bloc, Rounder Records, Rise, Jumbo, Sound It Out and Avalanche. Listen on beatwolfradio.com.”
