Shane MacGowan, Horslips, Duke Special and many others to perform in stirring tribute concert to ex-Pogues guitarist and Radiators from Space frontman at the Olympia this Saturday
Legends from the Irish entertainment business are performing at a testimonial for renowned musician Philip Chevron in the Olympia this Saturday.
Philip made the sad announcement recently that the esophageal cancer from which he has been suffering on-and-off since 2008 has become terminal.
Consciously echoing the lovely football tradition of honouring long-standing players, a cast of friends from the worlds of music, literature and film are coming out to honour the former Radiators from Space lead singer.
The show boasts an impressive cast including Horslips, Luka Bloom, Declan O'Rourke, Brush Shields. Gavin Friday, Duke Special, Mary Coughlan, Camille O'Sullivan and the Radiators from Space.
Figures from the world of literature appearing include Roddy Doyle, Joseph O'Connor and Pat McCabe. Actor and star of The Wire Aidan Gillen will also pay tribute on the night.
The evening promises to be a wonderful celebration of Philip's work from the last 40 or so years.
He founded The Radiators from Space in 1976, releasing the massively acclaimed album Ghostown in 1978.
In 1984, he joined the Pogues, remaining with the band until 1994. In 2003, he reformed The Radiators from Space, releasing the acclaimed Trouble Pilgrim in 2006.
