If you're a 5th or 6th Year secondary student, or at college and want to get a head start in the writing game then this is the perfect competition for you!
Write Here, Write Now is a major national writing competition, created by Hot Press, in association with the Dublin: One City, One Book Festival.
The competition is also supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, under the Arts in Education heading and Eason.
The Barrytown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle is the Dublin: One City, One Book choice for 2015. Published by Vintage, the trilogy focuses on the Rabbitte family and is made up of The Commitments (1987), The Snapper (1990) and Man Booker Prize nominee, The Van (1991).
Over the years, Hot Press has nurtured some of Ireland’s finest creative talent in music, literature, writing and journalism. we're aiming to uncover the very best new, student writing talent in the country.
The winners will be announced at a special ceremony in The Mansion House, Dublin in April.
The Rules
Write Here, Write Now – Build Your Own Barrytown is an equal opportunities competition! There are two categories, with a Male and a Female winner in each, delivering a total of four winners in all.
Category One:
This is open to Leaving Certificate cycle Second-Level students (5th and 6th Year, or equivalent)
Category Two:
This is open to all Third-Level students and to those who have completed their third-level education less than 12 months ago.
The Prizes
The FOUR WINNERS (two female and two male) will win an internship in Hot Press, during the spring or summer of 2015. Plus, they’ll receive a €250 cash prize each, a Certificate of Achievement from WRITE HERE, WRITE NOW and other great prizes. They’ll also have their winning entry published in a special issue of Hot Press.
Runners-Up
In addition to the four winners, there will be prizes for 20 runners-up – bringing the total number of lucky prize winners to 24 in all.
