From the first live review in 1991, to Glen Hansard’s own 2001-tour diary; we’ve raided the Hot Press archives for some highlights from The Frames' 25 year live career...
Having celebrated their silver anniversary this past weekend with the release of new (don't call it a best of!) career retrospective LP Longitude and two sold out shows in the elegant surroundings of the Iveagh Gardens, Hot Press takes the opportunity to look back at the career of one of Ireland’s most formidable live acts.
Unequalled in their ability to bridge the yawning chasm between band and fans, they have spent the last quarter century amassing a religiously devoted live following, both at home and abroad. Their love affair with the Irish public has seen them headline and sell-out dates at The Point and Dublin Castle, perform before nearly 20,000 at Marlay Park and headline Witnness and the Electric Picnic.
So as they celebrate a staggering 25 years as a band, we’ve gathered together some mementos of our time spent in the presence of one of the nation’s great live bands.

THE NATIONAL STADIUM, OCTOBER 1992
Playing as support to Luka Bloom, The Frames won over the crowd "With a splendidly warm and attractive stage presence, they delivered song after song of energetic rock, chock full of both power and charm. THE MEAN FIDDLER, DUBLIN 1995
"What started out as a hot, sticky day, ended up as a very hot happening night in The Mean Fiddler." HP scribe Jabba Daniels was there to see it all go down.

GLEN HANSARD'S 2001 TOUR DIARY
A glimpse into Glen Hansard’s tour diary while on the road with The Frames' fourth album For The Birds – including reflections on their first landmark Olympia show (March 30th, 2001)
"The Olympia, a fine well dressed old lady of a building, stretches upward all around us. Chaplin stood here, Van The Man stood here. The quiet lady is sleeping. John Brogan, the husband to this lady, lingers patiently in the wings. “No rush lads, tonight’s your night, take your time.” I like hearing that."
