Mook of the Week
STUART CLARK checks out an orgy of photographic over the topness
With the likes of Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock and System Of A Down dominating the charts, it was only a matter of time before mookdom got its own coffee table book.
Penned by Rolling Stone staffer Arion Berger, 'Hardcore Rap: A Fusion Of Metal, Rock & Hip-Hop' is required reading for anyone who subscribes to the theory that too much is never enough.
“Mooks aren’t new,” Berger says in the introductory blurb. “They’ve always been with us, under different aliases. Varmint, knave, greaser, gangsta, headbanger, slacker, punk, pimp, juvenile delinquent, screw-up, superstar. The look might change, but the attitude remains.”
That’s the cue for an orgy of photographic over the top-ness, and such fascinating facts as James “Munky” Shaffer of Korn being without the top third of his left index finger.
Oh yeah, and that Princess Superstar is a deadringer for Wayanetta Slob
