It's been a long steady slog to the top, but ever since David Gray released his 1993 debut A Century Ends his popularity in Ireland has been on an amazing, unprecedented upward trajectory.

Following the huge success of 1998's White Ladder (if you're reading this in the Irish Republic, you doubtlessly have a copy), when Gray added a little electronica into the acoustic mix, the rest of the world has started to catch on, with the album emerging into the U.K. Top 10 in 2001.
