Dance To The Underground
Shit, it’s the Clash! Well no, it’s actually New York’s Radio 4 but they do a pretty good impression.
What gives them the edge over all their punk rehash rivals is the understanding that it wasn’t just a about couple of chords and a whole lot of attitude. Thus Dance To The Underground adopts the edgy approach of the likes of Fugazi but marries it with funky basslines and percussion topped off with an uplifting melody.
The accompanying mixes are pretty pointless, smoothing out the rough edges that make the original so exciting, yet this is still massively impressive and that rarest of things – a modern punk rock record that you can dance to.
