Aside from their impeccable musicianship and an undeniable presence, pure and simple emotion is the key to their live genius.
Anyone who is a fan of live music – no matter the occasion, location or circumstance – can appreciate a performance by The Frames. The band, with its ability to delight any crowd, proved this by way of a potent two-hour set in New York City’s Bowery Ballroom, leaving Frames-newcomers and longtime supporters alike in awe. Aside from their impeccable musicianship and an undeniable presence, pure and simple emotion is the key to their live genius. It’s an emotion that was shared this night throughout the mixed crowd of Manhattan socialites, Village hipsters and Irish expatriates. The band pulled out all the stops, playing extended renditions of ‘Lay Me Down’, ‘Santa Maria’ and ‘Star Star’ which steadily raised the level of intimacy. Towards the end of the set the room was so mesmerised that you could hear a pin drop during mid-song lulls.
The Frames could be playing a show in Dublin, New York or Cairo and the message would still get through. An excited fan, most likely a Frames-virgin, echoed the crowd’s sentiment.
“You guys are awesome!”
