From the “where are they now” department comes a homegrown talent who by rights should be a lot better known. In fact, big things were expected from Merrigan at the dawn of the 1990s, when she was widely touted as the new Sinead O’Connor. While there are definite similarities in their respective vocals, Merrigan’s singing is very much her own as this fine collection of songs demonstrates. The programmed rhythms sound a tad dated, but otherwise this is of real interest.
