Kate Rogers has been called the Canadian Dido but that description does her little justice – Aimee Mann and Beth Orton are far more apt comparisons. On this covers album she tackles everything from the Smiths’ ‘Big Mouth Strikes Again’ to the Pixies’ ‘Here Comes Your Man’ and even makes a decent fist of Buffalo Springfield’s complex ‘Broken Arrow’. Her unforced vocal style and canny choice of tracks makes this a quietly enjoyable record and the perfect summer soundtrack.
