We Are Monster

Like many great albums, Monster made little if no impression on first listen. Maybe initially, there was a sense that Rajko Muller was an underachiever – that he would never manage to emulate the heights he reached on his classic ‘Beau Mot Plage’ single or with his debut album, Rest. Thankfully, with repeated listens, his subtle brush strokes come to the fore. Muller has been long associated with minimalism, but that is only a small part of the story here: largely avoiding the dance floor, he splices disco, vocals and space rock guitars with his micro grooves, creating a work that is impossible to define and that continues to reveal new elements with each listen.
