Hystereo used to be influenced primarily by Daft Punk and filtered house, but they assemble a wider range of influences on this record. There’s the ominous, emotive electro of ‘Opening Bell’ and the sweet electronic ambience of ‘Velocity’, while recent single ‘Validity Reason’ and ‘Futurlude’ are storming Vitalic-style affairs. This shows they are looking increasingly to techno for inspiration. However, some of their filtered house past is evident on the weakest moments, ‘Resistance’ and ‘Deale’. The album is a good start, but Hystereo’s second album should see them really flourish.
