Goldie is among the headlining acts at this year’s DEAF Festival, which is scheduled for the last week in October in Dublin.
That’s right, it’s time to put that guitar away and plug that laptop in, as Dublin Electronic Arts Festival (DEAF) takes over the city – well nearly – on the October bank holiday weekend.
With a line-up that stretches right across its remit, the fourth festival has drawn in some of the biggest international and domestic acts in the field, including Galaxy 2 Galaxy, Roger Doyle & General Practice and Kool Keith in addition to Goldie. But with over 150 acts from 10 different countries playing 23 different venues across Dublin, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The weekend will also see the premiere of When I Sold My Soul To The Machine, a film about the electronic scene in The Hague in the 1990s, plus all manner of dance-related activities.
“The clubs are the backbone of the festival,” explains Karen Walshe, one of its directors, “but we’re particularly excited about the more experimental aspects of the weekend, like the event we have at the Filmbase on October 29. To bring people like Pamelia Kurstin and Lisle Ellis together with the godfather of Irish electronic music, Roger Doyle, is the type of creativity we’re looking to build on for future festivals.”
The event kicks off on October 7 with a launch party at the Sugar Club, but the festival proper runs from October 26 – 31.
