Overnight Sensational
Moore was one half of the Stax duo Sam & Dave, who scored huge hits in the late 60’s with the likes of ‘Soul Man’, ‘Hold On I’m Coming’ and the sultry ballad ‘When Something Is Wrong With My Baby’. Here he duets with a host of big names on songs that range from soul and gospel to country and funk.
One of the all time great voices of soul music, Moore was one half of the Stax duo Sam & Dave, who scored huge hits in the late 60’s with the likes of ‘Soul Man’, ‘Hold On I’m Coming’ and the sultry ballad ‘When Something Is Wrong With My Baby’. Here he duets with a host of big names on a mix of well-known and more obscure songs that range from soul and gospel to country and funk. The voice is as powerful as ever and highlights are hard to pick out but they include country singer Wynona Judd who helps out on a smouldering version of the old Anne Peebles’ song ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’ (with the late Billy Preston on Hammond B3) and Bruce Springsteen who cuts it loose with a brilliant performance on ‘Better To Have And Not Need’. Steve Winwood proves his blue-eyed soul credentials on ‘Ain’t No Love’ and even Sting rises to the occasion on the gospel song ‘None of Us Are Free’. The old Conway Twitty country hit ‘It's Only Make Believe’ is given a soulful twist with help from Mariah Carey and Vince Gill while the Aretha standard ‘Don’t’ Play That Song’ features a fiery performance from Bekka Bramlett. Meanwhile ZZ Top axe-man Billy Gibbons adds subtle guitar to the funky ‘If I Had No Loot’ which also includes Van Hunt and Nikka Costa while Former Free/ Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers acquits himself well on the joyous ‘We Shall Be Free’. The whole affair is wrapped up by Eric Clapton, Italian star Zucchero, and Billy Preston, who takes the lead vocal on the Joe Cocker ballad ‘You Are So Beautiful’.
