Renaissance
Renaissance is a pleasant but ultimately forgettable collection of ‘hi tech’ funk workouts, and only more musical tracks like the string-led ‘Star Of The Story’ stand out from what sounds like a series of electronic takes on Rick James album tracks.
This album has been compared to Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, and even though it focuses on the more soulful end of techno, it wouldn’t even compare to a standard Underground Resistance record, let alone the godfather of soul’s greatest release. In the main, Renaissance is a pleasant but ultimately forgettable collection of ‘hi tech’ funk workouts, and only more musical tracks like the string-led ‘Star Of The Story’ stand out from what sounds like a series of electronic takes on Rick James album tracks.
