Twilite
This debut album is clubbier and fuller than JPLS' debut single for Minus - it sounds like he's fleshed out his ideas this time.
Listening to US producer JPLS’ debut single for Minus, ‘Program’, was a chore because his sonic experiments were self-indulgent and annoyed rather than entertained. Thankfully, his debut album is clubbier and fuller, like he has fleshed out his ideas this time: the cold, metallic rhythms of ‘Twilite 4’ sound like the machines have taken over the studio and Skoozbot’s remix of ‘Twilite 1’ is based on screeching analogue riffs. ‘Twilite 8’ boasts the kind of resonating bass groove you’d expect to hear Hawtin or Magda playing – but it’s hard to imagine anyone listening to this album from start to finish at home.
