Bubble goes 100% Irish
Hot Press has learned that Bubble Hits is poised to launch a dedicated Irish service.
The new service will be carried nationally by NTL/Chorus, Magnet, Smart Vision and Sky.
Operating out of studios in Ashbourne, County Meath and London, the Irish-owned pop channel can currently be viewed in Ireland, Britain, Germany, Poland and Hungary.
“We’ll be going live by October 1st at the latest,” says co-owner James Hyland. “Unlike MTV who just stick Irish commercials in between American programming, it’ll be a totally dedicated service, which means we can play acts like Fionn Regan, Republic Of Loose, The Blizzards and Bell X1 who wouldn’t necessarily register with our British and international viewers. There’s a perception of us just being a pop station, but we play a lot of rock and are looking to get involved with some of the major festivals here.”
The Irish content will be presented by current Bubble Hits VJs Glenda Gilson and Liam McKenna, and possibly one new addition.
“Bubble Hits Ireland will provide an outlet for Irish bands and record companies who’ve been reluctant to spend money on videos because there aren’t enough opportunities for them to get played,” Hyland pledges. “We’re planning to make a very healthy Irish music scene even more vibrant.”
