Not the artists currently trading as Bell X-1, but the fey French Fender-benders fronted by Anne Lisbet Tollanes.
Not the artists currently trading as Bell X-1, but the fey French Fender-benders fronted by Anne Lisbet Tollanes. This is a collation of previous EP releases, and opens with the Buzzcocks-like 'Comme Une Lundi', where the 'bah-bap-bap-ahh' vocal hook assures we're back in the land of post punk - think no money, huge overcoats and being mostly pissed off.
While firmly rooted in early '80s acts like New Order, the Cure and Cocteau Twins, the band are obviously having fun and it's infectious. This is more Plastic Bertrand than Air. When Tollanes sings "I'm gonna hate you for a while" on 'My Favourite Enemy' you can't help but smile.
Other plusses include a fake scratchy vinyl sound on 'Enquiry', so cute, so dated already, and the way she pronounces the word 'time', (toi-mm).
Sweet. Bon-bon even.
