Chris Rock to perform Irish date
Funnyman Chris Rock has announced a gig in the Olympia in September, as part of this year’s Bulmers International Comedy Festival.
Arguably the hottest property right now in American stand-up, the New Yorker got his big break in the ‘80s when Eddie Murphy saw him in a nightclub and was impressed enough to give him a bit part in Beverly Hills Cop II.
Since then, he’s been an MTV, Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central regular, and is currently working on his fifth HBO special.
Running from September 1 to 20, the Bulmers line-up also features such other A-List funnypersons as Michael Winslow, Rich Hall, The Mighty Boosh, Jimmy Carr, Stephen Lynch, Paddy McGuinness and Ricky Tomlinson.
The festival will also boast a strong Fringe programme featuring the likes of Brendon Burns, Dead Cat Bounce and Jimeoin.
And for you closet comedians, there’s also a chance to kickstart your own stand-up career in the Nothing Butt Funny talent competition, details of which will be unveiled shortly on hotpress.com.
Chris Rock comes to the Olympia on September 4. Tickets, priced €99, go on sale at 9am on Friday June 20.
