The Signature
Where The Signature LP works best is when it embraces its pop sensibilities.
Probably the biggest UK rap release of the year, The Signature LP is an odd little sonic nugget. It’s hard not to be impressed by Sway’s light-speed flow on album opener ‘Fit For A King’ but the po-faced boasting of the MC as being “the greatest” can grate a little, especially when you consider he’s still an unknown on the world stage. Where The Signature LP works best is when it embraces its pop sensibilities by roping in crooner Lemar on ‘Saturday Night Hustle,’ and while those tracks are as smooth as a new-born baby’s bonce, unfortunately there’s not enough of those moments to make this a truly special record.
