The Priests
Norn iron Padres doing classical hymns. Ministry fans beware.
They say the devil has the best tunes and this writer kinda agrees with that hoary old cliché. In a bid to redress the balance, The Priests (who are made up of three men of the cloth from the North and their pals the Choir of the Philharmonic Academy of Rome and Singers of the Basilica of St Peter’s in the Vatican) have released this self-titled classical album. Consisting of hymns such as ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘Pie Jesu’ this opus really is one for the grannies (except mine though, she loves Elvis). Mike Hedges’s production is excellent and the vocal performances are impressive, but if you’re not into going to mass then you should probably save your money for something else.
Key Track: ‘Irish Blessing’
