Epiphany
Turgid R&B Break-UP concept album
Chrisette Michele is the latest in a very long line of R‘n’B wannabes and Epiphany is her sophomore album and man, what a turgid, soulless offering it is. Opening with the singer coo-ing “It’s over,” the record is subtitled 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover and we reckon her hapless ex-boyfriend has made a lucky escape. Literally every track is about her break-up (‘Blame It On Me’, ‘I’m Okay’, ‘Playin’ Our Song’) and lines like “It’s not working anymore” and “Just say goodbye” make you feel like you’re watching a dodgy Australian soap opera rather than listening to an album.
