Tommy Sparks
Swedish debutante makes big bouncy castle of a power pop album.
Featuring one of the best songs of the year (‘She’s Got Me Dancing’) Swedish renaissance man Tommy Sparks’ debut doesn’t scale the same heights as that genius piece of power pop. But it’s still a great record in its own right. Occupying the same territory as Alphabeat, Dan Black and Frankmusik, Sparks’ album is big, bright and beaming. ‘These Things Happen,’ ‘I’m A Rope’ and ‘Velo Arktis’ are all jaw-droppingly good and there are more hooks on ‘Miracle’ than there are on the whole of the new Arctic Monkeys record.
