Moody cover shots were the order of the day back in 1989. Check out Enya (moody in a field), Def Leppard (moody on a beach) Elvis Costello (moody with a guitar), and Madonna (moody and scantily clad); with the moody trophy going to Jim Kerr (moody in the wilderness).

And the prize for most unexpected cover star goes to.... Margaret Thatcher. No, really! And we've got The Pogues, Rory Gallagher, Nanci Griffith, Keith Richards, Fleetwood Mac and Zig and Zag, interviewed by Mr Graham Linehan!

HP celebrates 10 years in print! Cover stars include the weird (Anne Doyle and Pope John Paul – although not together, obviously) and the wonderful (U2, Bryan Ferry, Elvis, Madonna and The Boss).

Issue 1 this year was our Phil Lynott tribute. Also gracing our cover in 1986: Gay Byrne's floral scarf, Elvis Costello's shades, Morrissey's quiff, Freddie Mercury's moustache and Sigue Sigue Sputnik's spandex.

There's a lot of love for U2, Bob Geldof and The Boss, but this year also saw covers from Tina Turner, Elvis and ZZ Top(!).

1984 was a year of titans: Bill Graham tells us the Michael Jackson story, and we've got covers with John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and then leader of Fianna Fáil, Charlie Haughey.

A year of incredibly cool covers, with Thin Lizzy, Bob Marley, Tom Waits, David Bowie, The Police, U2 and, er... Chris de Burgh.

Our 1982 cover stars included UB40, the Virgin Prunes, Moving Hearts, Rolling Stones, Kevin Rowland, Echo & The Bunnymen and new wave heroes Ultravox, Haircut 100 and ABC.

The great and the good where out in force for a rockin' night with live performances by The Flaws, Talulah Does The Hula and Vengeance And The Panther Queen

The band that are trying to make prog-rock (and Queen) cool again returned to Dublin and played a storming set at The O2
