Nighthawks at the Cobalt Saturday, April 14th, 2012 Cobalt Cafe 16 North Great Georges Street Dublin 1 Jinx Lennon Jinx Lennon is a ball of raw energy who mixes acoustic music with electro punk, and somehow holds it all together with some of the best lyrics that we’ve ever heard. Jinx has released six critically acclaimed albums to date, and has toured extensively throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe. He has been the subject of an RTE television documentary, and has also worked on the RTE radio play Know Your Station (which was based on his song lyrics). Jinx is currently composing music for an upcoming film by Kevin Allen and Pat McCabe. It will hopefully be released later this year. In short – Jinx Lennon is one of a kind. A legend. But don’t just take our word for it. Here is what Christy Moore had to say on the matter – “The best songwriter in the country at the moment is Jinx Lennon. He matters to me because he’s telling the truth. He’s singing about this Island we live in as it is.” Robbie Bonham Robbie Bonham is a regular headline act at the Laughter Lounge – and other fine venues throughout the land. He last played Nighthawks two years ago, and he was so good on that occasion, that some members of the audience actually died laughing. Well, the time has come to dance with death again, and we are delighted to announce that Robbie is coming back to the Cobalt on April 14th. He will be test-driving some new material from his forthcoming Edinburgh show, entitled Cartoon Character, and it’s sure to kill. (Ambulances from the Mater will of course be on standby.) Shane Hennessy
Shane Hennessy has only been playing guitar for a few years, but he has already shown himself to be one of the best young guitarists in the country. As we all know by now, one amazing YouTube clip is worth at least a thousand words, so check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LbHwxmOByo Colm Liddy Colm Liddy is a writer with a real comic gift and his readings are always entertaining. His debut collection, 40 Fights Between Husbands and Wives, was published by Penguin three years ago, and was showered with excellent reviews. His new book, a novel entitled Not Quite a Fairytale, has just been published, and Colm will be reading from it at the Cobalt on April 14th. In the meantime, get over to Colm’s website - www.colmliddy.com – and check out his cartoons! George Fox Last month George Fox travelled to Galway as an almost normal man, and the very next day returned to Dublin as holder of the prestigious 2012 TedFest Toilet Duck Comedy Award. A star was born! (Fortunately we had booked him for Nighthawks long before that, so we can still just about afford him.) Anyway, we’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again… George Fox is one of the funniest stand-ups on the Irish circuit. His material is intelligent and brilliantly surreal – and he has interesting hair too. The only real flaw in this man’s character seems to be the fact that his favourite colour is dead clowns.
Conall Bailey Conall Bailey is a singer-songwriter from Laytown, Co.Meath. In 2011 he released his debut album, Finding Holes, and has spent the last twelve months promoting it, including gigs at the Body and Soul Festival and Castlepalooza. Conall is currently putting the finishing touches to his second album and his set at the Cobalt will be a mix of old and new songs.
Neil Hickey Neil is a previous winner of the Bulmers Nuthin Butt Funny Comedy Competition, and has performed at all the major comedy venues in the country. Neil has also performed several times at the Kilkenny Comedy Festival, and has even played support to Bill Bailey at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin. Neil’s comedy style is quirky and intelligent (and funny!); and here’s what the Irish Independent thinks of him: "One of the most exciting newcomers to the Irish scene . . . . . Hickey could well be at the vanguard of the next wave of Irish Comics." Ellie McMahon Ellie McMahon has one of the most interesting singing voices that we’ve heard in quite some time and we are really looking forward to her set at the Cobalt on April 14th. Ellie is currently studying music at the British Institute of Modern Music and her influences include Arcade Fire and Laura Marling. Ellie will be accompanied by Conor McMahon at Nighthawks, and she is definitely a young talent well worth keeping a close eye on. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at the OXFAM SHOP on Parliament Street beside Temple Bar. Tel. 01 6707022. Price €13. Doors open at 7.45pm. Strictly no admission after 8.10pm. Show ends at 11.10pm. Bar available.

Shane Hennessy can't make it now, i.e., he has some exam at 6pm on Saturday. So The Guilty Folk are going to fill his slot instead. Nice replacement. Anyway, the show is this Saturday. There are still about 25 tickets left to sell. Go get 'em.
