Deetrich
Debut Album From Former Dali Chanteuse
Deetrich is Dee Doyle, formerly of acclaimed Kilkenny outfit Dali. She has now embarked on a solo career that has seen her tipped for bigger things. The attention is fully deserved – Doyle’s languid, expressive voice has been likened to Chrissie Hynde, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch among others. And while those comparisons are not far off the mark, her singing style is distinctively her own. ‘Can’t Sleep At Night’, with its twangy guitar stands out immediately , as does the jaunty opener, ‘No Job, No Money’ and the sensual, ‘Red Blooded Male’, which features some tasty banjo-plucking.
Elsewhere timeless melodies and strong vocal performances underpin, ‘Maybe It’s Time and ‘Hold Your Fire’, the latter of which recalls Shelby Lynne, while the quirky, ‘Yellow Radio’ blends classic ‘60s pop with gorgeous rhythmic and instrumental textures.
