Delorentos in Whelan's
Energetic, angular indie stylings and melodic, hook-tastic tunes are the order of the night. The band give a tight, flawless performance hinging on the formidable front pairing of Ronan and Kieran, whose sparring guitars and vocal harmonies are the act’s secret ingredient.
Heritage Centre excel on support duties tonight, peddling impressively catchy, well-structured songs, with colourful piano and inventive basslines that provide a fine start to the evening.
The excitement in advance of the headliners’ appearance is palpable, this being the first Dublin show since Ronan Yourell’s much welcomed u-turn on his decision to leave the band.
“We’re Delorentos – we died and then we decided to come back to life,” announces Kieran McGuinness. This statement causes much whooping and hollering from the assembled throng.

Most of tonight’s set is culled from the lauded, Choice and Meteor nominated In Love With Detail, but we’re also treated to some new material, which augurs well for the second long-player, currently pencilled in for an autumn release.
‘Body Cold’ wows us with its bewitching harmonies and chunky riffs. Elsewhere, ‘Halluncinations’ proves equally infectious, and quite danceable, as the numerous ladies tripping the light fantastic near the stage confirm.
‘Any Other Way’ from debut EP Leave It On gets an airing and new single ‘You Can Make Sound’ elicits a raucous response. ‘Eustace Street’, ‘Stop’ and ‘Basis Of Everything’ bring the show from roof-raising to explosive levels.
At the end of the night Ronan thanks the fans for sticking by them and applauds the audience – a gesture met with a hugely appreciative response. If ever he needed reassurance that he’d made the right choice, this was it.
