Best Of - IMRO Showcase
A impressive showcase featuring the cream of the Irish crop!
Dublin’s Jody Has A Hitlist have hairstyles as well-sculpted as their tunes. The energetic indie-electro troupe succeed in wooing the timid Academy crowd - a few songs in they’re bopping till they drop. 'Nobody’s Looking After You', 'Walk It Off, Son' and 'You Used To Be Fun' fizz with catchy riffs and burst with toe-tapping melodies.
Garage/blues trio The Minutes are up next, all slick quiffs and rockabilly posturing. Mark Austin's powerful Southern Gothic holler is the perfect voice for their infectious brand of explosive blues-rock. The thunderous bombast of 'Fleetwood', with its pummelling drums and undulating bass, is a definite set highlight, but this trio have tunes-a-plenty. Watch out for their debut long-player Marcata due later this year.
Kildare electro merchants Miracle Bell close the night in style with a batch of eminently danceable disco nuggets deeply in thrall to everything '80s. 'Fit For Love' and 'Love Sounds' are stand-out tracks in a synth-sational set. Stop-starts rhythms, angular guitar and an always-welcome dose of cow-bell are blended with ridiculously catchy keyboard-riffery to give perfect pop tunes that compel even the more reticent punters to get their groove on.
Roll on Showcase Tour 2011!
