REVIEW: Jägermeister Freezer Sessions, Limerick
Dolan’s was jammed for the second installment of the latest Hot Press Jägermeister Freezer Sessions. Limerick’s own Leading Armies opened the night with their high-octane ska-tinged sonic rock cocktail. Local fans were out in force to cheer the lads as they took to the stage and impressed all with a diverse slick batch of aural treats, especially noteworthy was the excellent recent single ‘Who’s To Blame’ which generated many whoops of delight.
Next up we were treated to the singular talents of Jeremy Hickey aka RSAG. The one-man powerhouse wowed with a sparkling selection from lauded long-players Organic Sampler and Be It Right Or Wrong, set highlights were ‘Out Of Focus’ and ‘Stick To Your Line’ on which the drummer’s dexterity blended with impassioned vocal stylings were particularly explosive.
Jeremy was followed by exceptional duo We Cut Corners who bewitched with a slew of nuggets from their Choice-nominated Today I Realised I Could Go Home Backwards as well as new material such as ‘Overtures’ and ‘Best Friend’ which bodes well for the second long-player. We still marvel at the fact that a two-piece can create such a full sonic palette. Outstanding as always!
Beat-maestro extraordinaire Toby Kaar brought the evening to a close with a raucous set which included his celebrated Nouveuanoise remix and Fela Kuti edit alongside roof-raisers such as ‘Snapdragon’ and ‘False Idol’. Splendid!
