We Cut Corners & The Danger Is...
A delicious double whammy!
A packed and sweltering Grand Social was the site for the launch of the Delphi label’s latest offering; a split single featuring We Cut Corners’ ‘The Leopard’ and ‘Nothing Stranger’ by The Danger Is.
The remarkable talent that is singing drummer Conall O’Breachain and guitarist/vocalist John Duignan (aka We Cut Corners) got the evening off to a splendid start with a beguiling cover of Loudon Wainwright III’s ‘One Man Guy’. The duo have been peddling their wares on the domestic circuit for some years now, first garnering attention as winners of the JD Set 2009 and since then their incendiary live performances have gained them quite the following.
Tonight’s set is culled primarily from their highly-anticipated forthcoming long-player and features the achingly beautiful ‘A Pirate’s Life’, the delicate ferocity of ‘Dumb Blonde’ and infectious bluster of ‘Go Easy’. New gems ‘My Best Friend’ and ‘This Is Then’ bode well for future endeavours and the song they were here to launch – ‘The Leopard’ – was as majestic and powerful as its title.
The second part of the evening belonged to the finely-crafted indie pop and exquisite musicianship of The Danger Is. The compelling set veered from the boisterous, playful and über-catchy ‘Same Face’ and pulsating rhythms of ‘We Stand Parallel’ to live fave ‘All For Gold’ via the shifting atmospheric soundscapes of ‘Nothing Stranger’. Sublime.
The haunting power and wide range of Niamh Farrell’s vocal is the icing on an already impressive cake comprised of a troupe of supremely talented musicians (including the guitar skills of Farrell herself) and accomplished songwriting in spades.
A delicious double whammy!
