Child Of Original Sin
Shaz is a promising light in this dirty old town.
Considering the ever-expanding fraternity of male Irish singer-songwriters, it’s refreshing to introduce an exciting new female presence in the acoustic landscape. A black lesbian born and bred in the Dublin Docklands, Shaz Oye brings a unique voice and progressive message to the game. Unfortunately – at least as far as this single is concerned – the musical backdrop, reminiscent of an early ’90s easy listening keyboard demo, is decidedly limited. That said, locating herself somewhere between Tracey Chapman, Ella Fitzgerald and Sade, Shaz is a promising light in this dirty old town.
