So Do I
In many ways, Christy Moore has been the voice of Ireland over the past few decades.
In many ways, Christy Moore has been the voice of Ireland over the past few decades. Not the poor-mouth of the European Union nor the preening Celtic Kittens of the 90s, but the voice of the ‘ordinary man’, the everyman. While Wally Page’s ‘So Do I’ doesn’t see Moore kicking against the pricks as he has done so prolifically in the past,
it is a wonderfully astute, lyrical pen-picture of natural beauty, delivered with the air of a man who has mastered the art of extracting every ounce of emotion from his voice without resorting to twee platitudes. A simple melody, a haunting rhyme, and Christy: "We’ll drink a pint in Hamilton’s Rest/ And the girl I love wore a Muslim dress/ The fishermen dream of the sun in the west/ And so do I".
