‘Tis The Season To Be Jolly

Don’t despair when cabin fever inevitably sets in this festive season – there’s plenty of live comedy happening around the country to keep you sane. If you can tear yourself away from that mountain of turkey sangwiches...

Maeve Heslin, 01 Dec 2011

As a wise man probably once said, ‘The true meaning of Christmas is thus: Laze ye on the couch in thine pyjamas, eating obscene amounts of Quality Street and watching only the crappiest of TV’. But, should you find yourself developing bed sores from lack of movement, why not throw on your winter coat and head to out to see one of this lot...

English comedian and host of 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Jimmy Carr makes his way across the pond for a series of December dates. Catch him in Dublin’s Olympia (1, 2), University Concert Hall, Limerick (3), and Cork’s Opera House (4).

Also facing a busy schedule this yuletide season is Navan man Tommy Tiernan. He’s in the Plaza, Buncrana on December 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 9, the Heritage, Portlaoise (11), UCH, Limerick (14) and the Wexford Arts Centre (18). He’s also hosting a ‘Christmas Long Lunch’ in Waterford’s Mansion House (16).

Meanwhile, Katherine Lynch continues her tour of The Hack Of Ya. The WonderWomen star is in Dublin’s Vicar St. on December 2, UCH Limerick (9), The Helix, Dublin (16) and Drogheda’s TLT (17).

Neil Delamere is also taking in several dates – The Venue Theatre, Meath on December 1, Tullamore Court Hotel (3), Roscommon Arts Centre (9), Siamsa, Kerry (16) and Vicar St. (17). In the west, it’s three for the price of one, as Kevin McAleer, Barry Murphy and Joe Rooney take to the Roisin Dubh stage in Galway.

David O’Doherty is in Whelan’s from December 16 – 18, Trailer Park Boys take to the Olympia stage (12 – 14) and The Nualas Christmas Special runs in Dublin’s Button Factory (10). Omid Djalili visits Vicar St. (3), Cork’s Opera House (9) and the Ulster Hall, Belfast (11), while The Pajama Men runs for one night only (7) in the Roisin Dubh.

Finally, if you make it through the festive season without killing or being killed by a member of your family, Dara Ó Briain will perform in Vicar St. on January 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Happy Christmas!
