MTV Award nominees announced: U2 up for 3
Get your booking slips at the ready – the nominations for the 2005 MTV Europe Awards are in, with Coldplay and Gorillaz leading the nominations.
Both bands received five nominations, with Gwen Stefani hot on their heels with four chances to gain a gong.
But the nominations don’t look so hot for the Irish contingent – only three of the 65 nominations are Irish and it’s little surprise that they all belong to U2. Our only representatives are up for awards in the categories of Best Album (for How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb), Best Group and Best Rock Artist.
Most disappointingly, the Best UK & Ireland award solely comprised of UK artists, namely Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs, James Blunt, Stereophonics and Gorillaz.

The award ceremony takes place in Lisbon, Portugal on November 3, with Sasha Baron Cohen’s alter-ego Borat hosting. Performers include Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Black Eyed Peas.
