Undoubtedly one of the highlights of Electric Picnic was Dundalk legend Jinx Lennon who held court in the Leviathan tent each evening.
Avoiding the shoddy cabaret of The Sex Pistols, I elected to close the weekend’s proceedings in style in the fine company of himself and Miss Paula Flynn.
Jinx is currently mixing his album in the glens of Leitrim and it will include current live favorites such as ‘Everyone’s Got A Mental Home In Their Heads’,
‘Orange Cranes Of Greenore’ and ‘Protect Thyself And Home’. Marc Aubele is on engineering duties and the confefction will feature the talents of Miss Paula Flynn, Captain Moonlight, Chris Morrin from Robotnik, Niall J Holohan from Reader’s Wives, Aindrias Staic on fiddle, Niall Lawlor on slide guitar, Bill Blackmore on trumpet and a host of other luminaries.

Also flying the flag for domestic talent at EP were Limerick/Dublin combo White Cholera with their theatrical blend of ska, gospel and music hall. The band are busy working on an album which is due later this year, but in the meantime you can catch them at The Cat’s Miaow with Camille O’Sullivan in the Spiegeltent on September 16.
Some news from the Floyd Soul And The Wolf camp next. Their second single ‘Bottle Of Booze’ is now available nationwide. You can catch them live at a free gig in The Cobblestone, Dublin on September 11 with support from The Hot Sprockets. Americana/roots outfit I Draw Slow release their debut album on September 19, with the official launch the previous night in Whelan’s.
The band comprises brother and sister Dave and Louise Holden on guitar and vocals respectively, Adrian Hart on violin, Colin Derham on banjo and Konrad Liddy on double bass. The long-player was recorded at Downside Farm in Dunlavin last summer. Expect songs about stalkers, love as a bloodsport and lesbian lighthouse keepers…
Kilkenny’s Myp et Jeep launch new single ‘Enough Is Enough’ on September 19 with a 5pm instore in Tower Records, Wicklow Street and a hometown show later that night in the Pumphouse. The track is taken from their debut album Blood Is Not Enough, which is due in January 2009 on Reekus Records. Featuring four friends, all Kilkenny natives, the band has already toured with Snow Patrol, Republic Of Loose and The Frank And Walters. They also play the Thurles Festival on Sunday September 21 and Upstairs in Whelan's the next night…
Carosel, a.k.a. Michelle Phelan and Pete McGrane, also release their debut single ‘Easy As It Flows’ on September 19 taken from their forthcoming album Kaleidoscope. Michelle’s vocals have drawn comparisons with Feist and Regina Spektor whose ‘Hotel Room’ they covered in their previous Inka Child guise. The single will be available in both digital and CD formats. The duo had a great reception on the Pod stage at Electric Picnic and RTÉ filmed them performing ‘Home’, which is now showing on the 2fm website. They play the White Horse sessions in Lahinch (September 16), and an in-store in Tower (September 19 @ 6pm)...
