Judging by the title of their next single, The Aftermath can provide the answer. ‘Northern Lingerie’ is due for release on May 1, and has been remastered in London’s Metropolis Studios by John Davis of Kaiser Chiefs, The Ting Tings, Bloc Party, Led Zeppelin, U2 and The Smiths renown . Three previously unreleased songs clinch the deal. The band play their first UK gig of 2009 at the Brudenell Social Club, Leeds on Friday April 3. They plan to film the show and release it later this year on DVD. They’ll be joined on the night by up and coming Leeds outfit The Ladyboys and Ready Steady Go DJs. A full Irish tour follows in May and June…
Galway quartet –it figures – Disconnect 4 are busy recording with Kitsuné producer/Cazals member Martin Dubka. Will keep you posted on the fruits of that labour – but in the meantime you’ll be interested to know that new single ‘The Rise’ will be available from iTunes from the April 14. Dublin’s The Riptide Movement unleash debut album What About The Tip Jars? on the listening public on April 30. The confection was produced by Tony Colton (The Doors, Yes, Rory Gallagher, and Head, Hands and Feet) and boasts a guest appearances from Reese Wynam of Stevie Ray Vaughan fame who was recently voted best B3 organ player in America. There’s a childish joke in there somewhere, but we’re not going to crack it. The second album from Cork-based Congolese musician Niwel Tsumbu, Songs Of The Nations, has just hit the streets. An infectious blend of African rhythms, rumba, new jazz, classical flamenco and more, it showcases Niwel’s impressive versatility – he plays electric and acoustic guitars and sings mostly in his native Lingala.
