Anti-abortion protesters 'literally mad': Brian Hayes
The Junior Finance Minister has slammed 'intimidation' tactics used by pro-life activists...
Junior Finance Minister Brian Hayes has deemed anti-abortion protesters 'literally mad'.
Speaking to Hot Press, the TD for Dublin South-west condemns the behavior of some pro-life activists, calling them 'mad people'.
"There is real intimidation going on on the ground", he says "particularly in rural Ireland - mad people. And I'm not referring to the genuine pro-life position, which is respectful of others and argues the case. But there are elements to this debate which are literally mad, and they see this as some kind of last cultural war".
The Junior Finance Minister feels that the majority of people in the country want the State to deal with the issue 'once and for all'.
"I'm very much in favor of the legislation that we're going to put through", he continues. "I was always in favor of that and it's ridiculous that, over the past 20 years, it hasn't happened. I think the great majority of people want to see the issue of X resolved".
