America’s National Public Radio site is a musical treasure trove .

Stuart Clark, 27 Jan 2012

Not that Irish radio isn’t absolutely terrific, but Caught In The Net has been spending copious amounts of time recently listening to America’s very fine and commercial-free National Public Radio.

As well as being the bees-knees for current affairs, www.npr.org is awash with free album streams – Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Nada Surf, First Aid Kit and Craig Finn are among the current crop – and a concert archive which includes Zola Jesus, The Low Anthem, Jonny Greenwood, Chairlift, Lucinda Williams and a whole lot more.

CIN has also been gorging on Triple J, Australia’s national alternative music station which has taken a bit of a shine – and rightly so – to the Cast Of Cheers recently.

“Ready to stomp your feet?” writes their morning show woman Zan Rowe who’s the spit of Annie Mac. “Meet The Cast of Cheers. No, Ted Danson and Kirsty Alley haven’t formed a band, instead a group of bro’s from Dublin have A). Nabbed the band name of the year and B). Backed it up with a killer new single. The second record from this Irish band is on its way, and the first taster is a total hit. Fun, fun, fun in two and a half minutes, fuelled by angular guitars and that spiky but smooth vocal. It’s great.”

Listen live at abc.net.au/triplej/#.

Sticking with music and LCD Soundsystem have posted a two-minute trailer for their swan song concert film at shutupandplaythehits.com. It looks an absolute belter with Madison Square Garden transformed into the biggest, most rocking-est club you’ve ever seen.

The site also has some downloadable hi-res photos of LCD’s last stand, which ended with mainman and Paul Nolan lookalike James Murphy blubbing like a baby. Bless!

Turning to sport and Watford’s former American centre-back is the star of Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story, one of the best footie-mentaries we’ve seen in a long time. “What if Rocky played soccer?” ponders the suitably OTT trailer at jaydemeritstory.com.

Which just leaves time for quick visits to youtube.com/watch?v=W4yIGOVIioA (the Scottish nudes headlines); reggiewatts.com (the dog’s the other night in Whelan’s); and bit.ly/ya7ada (information sharing becomes a religion).
