Catholic League attack Bowie's latest video

Earlier this week we brought you the latest video from David Bowie (see it again below), and it seems we weren't the only ones to pick up on it.

The clip, for the title track to lauded comeback album The Next Day, has come under heavy criticism from the Catholic League. The group (which claims to be America's "largest Catholic civil rights organisation") has posted a blog entitled "BOWIE'S 'JESUS VIDEO IS A MESS".

The video stars Bowie as a Christ-like character, whilst Marion Cotillard suffers violent stigmata and Gary Oldman plays a priest.

Catholic League President says: "David Bowie is back, but hopefully not for long. The switch-hitting, bisexual, senior citizen from London has resurfaced, this time playing a Jesus-like character who hangs out in a nightclub dump frequented by priests, cardinals and half-naked women."

His conclusion? "In short, the video reflects the artist – it is a mess."

You imagine Bowie will be pleased.
