Delorentos, The Minutes & We Cut Corners do JD Roots
They'll all perform at a free event in May.

Three hot to trot Irish acts for the price of one is the deal on May 18 when Delorentos, We Cut Corners and The Minutes join forces for a special collaborative Jack Daniel’s JD Roots gig in the Dublin Button Factory.
“We were at last year’s event and saw Jape, Cathy Davey, Neil Hannon and Romeo from The Magic Numbers do the Vampire Weekend album, so that was a really interesting gig to be at,” enthuses We Cut Corners’ Conall Ó Breacháin. “Just the idea of getting together with other bands and collaborating is something that we’ve never done. We’ve only ever worked together, just the two of us, so it’s going to be interesting to see how the process works!”
Continues Mark Austin from The Minutes: “I think we’re looking at Thin Lizzy, My Bloody Valentine, Whipping Boy. It’ll be like a Venn diagram. We’ll all have our ideas and we’ll meet in the middle. We’ve only got one guitar player, which is me, and I can’t even play guitar very well. So to have someone else in to do guitar, maybe on a Lizzy song, it’s a great chance to mess around but do good versions. I don’t think any of the bands would be happy if we went out and made a show of their work. All the bands here are on the same page in that regard.”
Also looking forward to the mother of all jam sessions is Delorentos’ Níal Conlan.
“The first gig we ever did was actually a covers night and that was one of the things that was always fun about being in a band, putting your own spin on another person’s work. We never do it though. We talk about doing it but we never do it. In about five or six years we’ve only ever put about three covers in our sets."
Tickets for the show are free, and are available from April 2 via www.jdroots.ie. Those who register will go into a draw for tickets. Closing date for entries is Friday May 4.

Thus their debut EP finally arrives with great expectations. Fortunately, it’s a case of happy endings all round as the Dublin four piece pass their first test with flying colours. Indeed, you’d be hard pressed to recognise this as anything but the work of a band at the top of their game. Every aspect exudes pure confidence. The only possible worry, in fact, is that, with its twisted guitar riffs and awkward beats, they could find themselves tied a little too closely to the whole Franz / Bloc / Futureheads thing. Some lead, most follow and Delorentos are heading for the front.
