Mescall came to the label’s attention via-another of their acts, LeeAnn Rimes.
“We’d been looking for songs for LeeAnn but nothing killer was coming up,” explains Curb MD Phil Cokell. “Then we played one of Don’s songs, ‘Trouble Is’, and we knew we had to have it.”
Rimes wasn’t the only one, with Aerosmith, Backstreet Boys and Gareth Gates also taking a shine to the tune.
As well as becoming a Music City pen for hire, the 36-year-old has his debut Curb album, Innocent Run, ready to go on February 10.
